RAIL 50 is a traditional panchromatic black-and-white film based on Lucky SHD100. Although the original film is rated at ISO 100, CAMR recommends exposing it at EI 50 for fuller shadow detail, smoother tonal transitions, and more controlled highlights.

At EI 50, RAIL 50 produces a classic monochrome look with visible but pleasing grain, clear edge definition, and a broad range of grey tones. It can also be exposed at EI 100 when more speed and slightly stronger contrast are preferred.

Kodak D-76 is the recommended developer for balanced contrast, consistent density, and a natural grain structure.

Because development times can vary between batches and processing methods, a test roll is recommended before processing important photographs.
